Department of Intensive Care Medicine

Dear Patient,
Dear Relatives of our Patients,

On behalf of the University Clinic for Intensive Care Medicine at Inselspital, I warmly welcome you and assure you that we will be to providing you all or your loved ones with excellent nursing and medical care at the highest university-level intensive care standards. Our services, including organ support measures, are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. Whether you or your relatives are with us following a major planned procedure, due to an unforeseen event, or because of an acute illness, we aim to combine top-tier university medical care with treatments tailored to the individual needs of each patient. We understand your situation and place your personal concerns at the forefront.

In our intensive care and monitoring units, we work closely with all specialists within the hospital, continually reviewing and improving medical treatment as a university clinic. These ongoing improvements are primarily achieved through clinical research. Our clinic conducts research across the entire spectrum of intensive care medicine, with a particular focus on ensuring that innovative findings from university-level clinical research are swiftly and directly incorporated into improving patient care.

Lastly, I would like to acknowledge that a stay in one of our intensive care or monitoring units may be challenging for you and/or your loved ones. In addition to providing professional, continuous medical treatment, we offer individual support and personal assistance to relatives. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if we can assist you in this regard.

With best wishes for a speedy recovery and warm regards,

Prof. Dr. med. Joerg C. Schefold
Clinic Director and Head Physician
